5 Online-Platforms that Allow You to Watch 4K Movies

Little by little the content in 4K resolution is more popular and it no longer costs so much to find sources that offer series, movies or content in the form of video under this resolution. Looking back to 2017 will cost you less than $1,000 to find a 4K TV. Now, however, they’re available for a quarter of that price. But even though they’re more affordable than ever (and therefore the center of more home entertainment settings) finding and viewing 4K content is still a bit more complicated. That’s why we’re going to show you some possibilities to access from your brand new Smart TV to a superior image quality.

What is 4K TV?

The 4K resolution, also called Ultra HD or UHD, has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. 4K HDR technology is already available on TVs, streaming platforms, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, and video games and content for PS4 Pro, Xbox One S and X, and PC.

Higher resolution logically means more definition and fewer blurry images at short distances and on large screens, but what influences image quality the most today is HDR. HDR is a new technology that individually illuminates different areas of the screen. This makes it possible to enhance the contrast of light between different parts of any given scene. You get whiter whites, blacks, and a better differentiation between different shades of these colors. Thanks to other associated technologies such as the larger color gamut or 10-bit panels, the colors are also more vivid and realistic:

The key is the ability of HDR to get closer to the range of colors and lighting that the human eye can see, which was greatly reduced with SDR -old standard screens. To apply HDR to an image, video (in movies) and graphics (in games) have to add additional information, which tells the TV how to apply HDR lighting by zones. Therefore, a video or game or a movie can only take advantage of HDR if they themselves incorporate this information.

Where can I watch 4K content?

Movies4k

Movies 4k is a free online platform where you can watch popular movies and TV shows via streaming for free. Without registration you can use this website for free. This website is available in English, and the movies are sorted and assigned according to their popularity. With it you can stream and watch the latest movies in Ultra 4K, 1080p HD, 720p. Movie4k.su has a lot of movies and series. And they are divided into different genres, such as comedy, horror, adventure, action, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and so on.

YouTube

Since YouTube is an open platform and 4K cameras are everywhere now, YouTube is now one of the best sources of content in 4k ultra HD. You won’t find a catalog of movies and series, but you will find content in 4K. Best of all, this platform is free. Or $12 a month for a YouTube Premium subscription, as well as $2 to $15 to rent movies. But keep in mind that even if your TV comes with a YouTube app, this doesn’t mean it’s going to be on 4K, so you should ask the store before you buy the TV.

Netflix

Netflix is the most popular platform when it comes to streaming video, and in which we will have access to UHD content that also supports improvements such as image enhancement systems Dolby Vision or HDR10. All you need is a UHD TV from one of the brands on the market (Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sony, Vizio, Philips, Hisense) that has the application loaded or allows streaming from a dongle with 4K capacity. But keep in mind that only the most exclusive price plan offers support for that resolution.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon’s “free” video service comes with a Prime subscription (36$). It was launched with 4K Ultra HD versions of some of its original series such as Mozart in the Jungle and Transparent and has since expanded to include most of its original series, as well as many other TV series and movies. Amazon also broadcasts many of its original series on HDR, including Jack Ryan on Dolby Vision. The service also has a rotating selection of 4K Ultra HD movies as part of its Prime collection; the exact number of titles available varies from month to month.

Google Play Videos

Google also has a catalog where you can access 4K movies. Something that was seen coming when they launched the Chromecast Ultra, that we remember, has as main claim its compatibility with the streaming of content in 4K resolution. The catch is that for now most of the titles are only available in the United States and Canada. Movies among which we find titles like “Ghostbusters”, “Batman Vs. Superman”, “Everest”, “10 Cloverfield Lane” or other classics like “The Fifth Element”.
